A 84% weight reduction wasn't the goal—it was simply the result of creating the ultimate dry carbon hood prop. This product was born from our pursuit of aesthetics.
When restoring the engine bays of the Built By Legends EG and EK, we couldn't accept leaving the factory steel hood prop in an otherwise meticulously crafted engine compartment. Every detail matters.
Using a 3D scan of the original hood prop, we engineered the Dry Carbon Rod (DCR) as a direct, bolt-on replacement with OEM fitment.
While the exposed dry carbon weave was always destined to elevate the engine bay, achieving the required rigidity proved far more challenging than expected. Products with a similar shape, such as golf club shafts and fishing rods, are designed to flex. Ours needed to do the opposite.
In collaboration with MISTRAL, the master craftsmen behind dry carbon components for GT500 race cars, we developed a 100% dry carbon rod that delivers the rigidity, precision, and visual refinement expected from a Built By Legends product.
Every Dry Carbon Rod is handcrafted in Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan.
